PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - September 15, 2010 CONTACT: Esther Levens - 913.648.0022 - info@democracyunderattack.org ___________ For publication on Constitution Day, Friday, September 17, 2010 Democracy Under Attack: Coalition Polls Candidates on Shariah Law vs Constitution - Choosing between democracy and Shariah Law is a choice between civilization and barbarism. Loss of Constitutional rights by any one group of Americans for any reason can never be allowed. This week, prior to Constitution Day, Friday, September 17, 2010, the Democracy Under Attack Coalition has polled Congress with the hope that they will take a stand for the Constitution and against the introduction of Shariah Law – which is in direct conflict with the Constitution. If we permit this kind of special legal exception, then we step into the disaster of the current European situation in which there are enclaves of Islamic militancy where non-Muslims never dare tread. Weeks ahead of mid-term elections on November 2nd, Democracy Under Attack Coalition has been blanketing Capitol Hill with a letter stating the dangers of Shariah Law in the United States and challenging our elected officials to openly oppose it. Their assessment of the dangers of Shariah Law and its incremental infiltration into our society should be a matter of major concern for voting Americans. It should receive special attention and awareness on Constitution Day. The letter lists examples of Shariah Law – some of which are currently being practiced in America. They include: fostering Jihad inspired terrorism, denigration of non-Muslim religions (dhimmi culture), lack of any humanitarian court and trial system, inequality for women including barbaric punishment such as stoning to death (honor killings) and mutilation of women for any perceived sexual impropriety (see August 9 Time Magazine cover), chopping off hands and feet of suspected thieves, child abuse such as promoting early childhood indoctrination for suicide bombing and permitting child marriages, and mandatory death for homosexuals and apostates (converting to any religion away from Islam). These, among other components of Shariah law, conflict with the fundamental basis of our constitutional republic. The Coalition is making every effort to assess the possibility of holding congressional hearings leading to legislation opposing Shariah Law. The letter, addressed to 535 Senators and Congressmen, is accompanied by a list answering most frequently asked questions. Ultimately they would like for each candidate to produce a position paper to inform voters of their stand prior to the mid-term elections. Two states, Louisiana and Tennessee have pending legislation outlawing Shariah law and an Oklahoma legislature will vote on a similar bill in November. The DUA letter asks Congressmen: "Will we compromise the Constitution to accommodate Shariah law or will we take action now to protect our Constitution? Does Congress fully understand the incremental inroads Shariah law has made in our society? And will Congress take steps to prohibit Shariah Law?” "Time is of the essence. We are calling on legislators to make their positions known now. We feel that immediate action is necessary to preserve democracy and guarantee constitutional freedom for all Americans." Stop Shariah Law in the United States of America!
